About Limestone Dancers
WHO ARE WE:
The most important thing we can tell you about our Club is that we gather in friendship to learn and then practice a new skill - MODERN SQUARE DANCING. Modern Square dancing has evolved over the years, it no longer is just a "country" dance. First, the music we dance to comes from all genres - not the twangy country. Second, there is no formal "square dance attire", clean neat and comfortable clothing is all that is required. Third, medical science has now established that dancing is one of the best physical exercises you can do to stay mobile and fit. Fourth, medical science has also established that joining a social club and regularly meeting is beneficial for emotional wellbeing. And lastly, once you join our club - your circle of friendship is expanded - you meet new people as you learn a new skill, you may experience some frustration learning something new - BUT it is always with a smile. All of this for less than the cost of going to a movie each week! (Read more on our About Dancing page.)
CLUB OBJECTIVES:
The objectives of the Club include providing an opportunity for all members of the Club to learn and dance all levels of modern square dancing up to and including A2 as well as intermediate Round dancing. Our classes run from early September to early May, providing all members of the Club an enjoyable dancing experience stressing "Fun, Friendship, and Fitness". We have classes twice a week at all 4 levels of dance. Membership Annual Fee is $20 per person and then a weekly fee when you attend - generally $7 - 8.
HISTORY:
We are a not for profit club that was formed over 15 years ago as an amalgamation of the Kingston Towners and Promanaders clubs. Dancing is provided at Basic/Mainstream level, Plus level, Advance level, and Round Dancing. The annual membership fee is about $16, part of which goes to cover the cost of liability insurance and fees to our umbrella organization EOSARDA and each week the cost is below the cost of going to a movie!
Limestone Dancers is a member of the Eastern Ontario Square and Round Dance Association. EOSARDA represents approximately 30 independent clubs in the Eastern Ontario area.
EOSARDA is a part of the Ontario Square and Round Dance Federation. EOSARDA makes available to member clubs, their dancers, callers/cuers/leaders, the benefits of Third Party Liability insurance. The insurance policy is held by the CSRDS. Additional liability insurance, through the Federation, covers the executive of each Club.
